America's Holocaust

For most Americans, January is a month of new beginnings, looking forward to what secrets the New Year holds.  Many are consumed with resolutions they won’t keep, and football championships.  Then there are those of us that value the sanctity of human life, for which January holds a very different meaning.  You see, January is National Sanctity of Life Month, and January 20^th is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday for 2013.

Permit me, if you will, to share a few sobering, but necessary thoughts on this subject. Of particular significance, is the fact that we now mark the 40^th anniversary of legalized abortion in the United States.  Many Americans have been focused on the tragic school shootings in Newtown, Conn., and rightfully so.  A gunman shot his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14 and slaughtered 20 first-graders and six educators. The gunman, who had also killed his mother that morning, committed suicide as police arrived.

In sharp contrast to those 26 people who were killed in Newtown, how many people give even a fleeting thought of the almost 55 million innocent babies that have been murdered in America by the abortion industry.  Sadly, most of them have been killed by you and me, by way of our tax dollars!  Forty years ago the Supreme Court decided two cases that would ultimately end the lives of tens of millions of unborn babies: Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. Together, these two decisions allowed the death of as many as one of three children born in following generations and made abortion legal up to the day of birth in all 50 states.

Seems almost unbelievable doesn’t it, 26 verses 55 million, and yet it is the 55 million that we have legalized and accept without the slightest guilty conscience as a nation.  Oh yes, then there is that tragedy of mankind known as the holocaust of the Jews by the Germans.  The world has memorialized the Holocaust with museums and monuments, to remind us that the world can never let this happen to a people again!  Would it surprise you to know that the death toll from the Holocaust was only 11 million men, women, and children?  I used the term “only” due to its comparison with 55 million babies murdered by abortion in the United States alone.

To put this in an American perspective; we have killed more babies by abortion than the combined populations of, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Philadelphia, Detroit, St. Louis, and Atlanta!  And consider the potential economic impact to our nation.

• 55 Million children’s parents not shopping for bottles, diapers, toys, booties, or school books.
• 55 Million fewer teens filling summer and part-time labor needs.
• 55 Million less workers earning, spending, saving, investing wages; paying taxes, adding productivity to the labor force.
• 55 Million less consumers of houses, cars, and other goods and services.
• 55 Million young adults not making the market larger, more efficient, and more encouraging of investment and innovation.
• 55 Million fewer minds creating new knowledge for the good of mankind.

Every January I reflect on how a loving God breathed His very own breath into Adam, and man became a living soul.  With His own breath, He gave His creation dominion over the earth, and told mankind not to murder one another.  And I tremble at the thought of an angry God, who will execute judgment upon His creation, for the intentional killing of 55 million innocent babies in the womb!

One of modern times most ardent supporters of protecting the unborn, was President Ronald Reagan.  In his Personhood Proclamation of January 14, 1988, he declared:  “That right to life belongs equally to babies in the womb, babies born handicapped, and the elderly or infirm.  That we have killed the unborn for 15 years does not nullify this right, nor could any number of killings ever do so.” 

My prayer is for God to once again open the eyes of His people, and return a moral, right to life compass to His creation!
