Time for Americans to be Americans
Time for all Americans to be Americans
What does it mean to you to be an American? Perhaps that is a very broad question and no doubt there are as many answers as there are citizens of this great country.
And speaking of our great country, let’s suggest a few things that have formed the foundation of this greatness. First of all, we began as one nation under God. Yes the phrase is actually still in our Pledge of Allegiance. Secondly, there is the Constitution of the United States developed by our founding fathers and empowered into being by the States. And thirdly, the frameworks of a unique government like none other before it that provides checks and balances to assure that the citizen class is never ignored in order to carry out the will of the people.
With the above foundations in place, guess what happens next? This country grows faster and stronger and freer than any other before it. And in just over 200 years we have been
transformed from small colonies of people to the greatest nation in the world. So what has happened? Why does it seem we are in meltdown?
Now if you are like me, you probably have lived all your life in this country characterized as one of the most affluent, industrious, militarily strong and free nations on all the earth. Has anything happened in these United States that you would consider threatening to any of those characteristics? Yes perhaps it is a baited question. But stop and consider how long it has taken for the majority of the populace to “wake up” and see that the threat is indeed very real and the times are dire for a return to what made this country great. read more »
Constitutional Showdown
Caution! Impasse ahead! Constitutional Showdown on the horizon! (A Texan’s commentary on a national solution)
That’s right! We Americans are heading, at an exponential rate of speed, toward a point when we have to decide whether or not we will continue on the path our founding fathers charted. So far, we have an obstinate Congress, a supreme court that won’t demand an original birth certificate from our current President, and a President that authorizes monies to give to foreign countries for the purpose of drilling offshore when he will not endorse our own domestic drilling, and a federal government that refuses to take action and enforce the laws dealing with immigration and illegal aliens.
Over and over again, we see our elected leaders making decisions that help grow the federal government and its intrusive power into our lives and attempt to regulate affairs that lie outside of their enumerated powers. Many can choose to ignore the warning signs, but those of us who value freedom and liberty sense a crucial moment in American history for correcting an unconstitutional course.
We need to restore The Constitution! But how do we do this? Some suggest a national referendum. Others suggest a citizen’s Federal Grand Jury. What means are available to “we the people” for holding our elected officials accountable? These are the leaders who swore by an oath of office to preserve, protect, and defend the United States Constitution. read more »
My First Political Speech
April 11, 2009
“We the People”
Ladies and Gentlemen; we are here today in recognition of the profound upheaval that is taking place in our country. And from that perspective we gather here today, not just as Texans, not just as Democrats, not just as Republicans, or as any one party or political affiliation. We are gathering here today to accept and exercise our privilege, indeed our responsibility, as citizens of this great country, our great country, to faithfully execute the office of our citizenship, and to the best of our ability, to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.
For years, our U.S. Constitution has come increasingly under the assault by those who seek to reduce its value, its purpose, and its protection. If we idly stand by and say nothing, how long will this great document constructed by our heroic founding fathers survive? How long will we continue to enjoy the freedom and liberty for which others have fought and died? read more »
