Miss Galore's World.
In the 007 movie Goldfinger, there was a character named Pussy Galore. In typical Ian Fleming style his character names often had double meanings. This was also made light of in the Austin Powers movies.
Sometime between when I was a child growing up in the 70's and 80's and today, we became soft. I can't put my finger on where or when it started exactly, but it has happened. I'd like to think it started with over bearing mom's wanting to protect their children from every ill of the world. Somewhere along the way we were told we had to care about everybody's feelings. read more »
Feds fail to act, obstruct states in immigration battle.
Article IV Section 4 of the US Constitution:
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
In recent weeks we have seen the Federal Government through the Department of Justice prohibit States from implementing new immigration laws. The states obviously are fed up with the Federal Government's lack of action when it comes to protecting the states from invasion. I don't know what else you call 11 million foreigners flowing across the border.
The more you watch what the federal government does, the more you realize they are simply doing whatever they want. We have an executive branch that usurps power and sends our country to war without the consent of congress. We have a legislative branch that routinely passes laws that are clearly not among the 18 enumerated powers listed in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution. We have a Judicial branch that feels that they have authority to legislate from the bench and "interpret" the Constitution.
Any American with a basic grasp of the English language can and should read this 4 page document for themselves. I dare anyone to read directly from the Constitution and tell me where there is authority for the EPA, for Dept. of Education, Dept. of Energy and many other government programs. The 10th Amendment is clear. Any powers not within the 18 enumerated powers is left to the states or the people.
In this case we have a Federal government that refuses to act and protect our borders, and then obstructs the states when they try to handle things themselves. If you think changing the faces in Washington will do anything to change things, you are dead wrong. That much has been proven time and again over the past 100 years.
Panhandlers
Given my profession as a truck driver I often have the pleasure of dealing with both panhandlers and women of ill repute (lot lizards). They both in the end want the same thing, money. The lot lizards at least are willing to provide a service, however disgusting you may find it. It occurred to me the other day that Washington DC must be something like a truck stop. Full of all sorts of nefarious characters looking for a hand out, pay off, or favor.
There seems to be a disconnect in society. I fear that the majority of people just think that government has all kinds of cash, and that government ought to give it away. They fail to realize that government gets there money from the people. They of course have operating costs, so a good portion is taken off the top to keep the government wheels turning. This allows one to justify petitioning the government for favor. Government is faceless and so big that surely they will give to a worthy cause.
So in come the panhandlers. The panhandlers have all kinds of hard luck stories and play on your emotions and feelings of charity. Now as a truck driver its my own money that they seek so I always say no. Government on the other hand, its not their own money. Its money that belongs to someone else, so its much easier to just say yes and get them out of your hair. Its just a drop in the bucket anyways, it won't matter that much. The cycle continues until all the money is gone, and there is none left. Well, let's just borrow some money, so we can keep paying off the panhandlers. So they borrow, now they have panhandlers and creditors to satisfy. What is the next step? Well, all those rich people, they have all kinds of money they don't need, let's take more away from them. So taxes are raised so government can keep paying off the panhandlers. read more »
Washington cannot and will not fix itself.
Many American's say that Washington is broken, they never do what needs to be done. We have elections every 2 years, and we hear the same promises from politicians year after year. They spew the same old focus group tested speeches that get their base to vote for them. Those who raise the most money and get their name out generally will win the election. This is really because most people are politically ignorant and apathetic.
What have we learned? Nothing. I say nothing because its the same old story in Washington, no matter what side you are on, you get the usual speeches. They tell you what you want to hear, and they do what ever they want in the end. They have these knock down, drag out fights over ideology and then compromise their alleged principles. They grow government, take on more debt, and increase the bills to the taxpayers. They tell you they had to compromise in order to not default, or pay grandma, or whatever excuse they come up with. So they compromise on the very principles that got them elected. They will have a nice photo opportunity after the grand compromise all smiles and shaking hands and slapping backs. The masses will be happy because they don't have to listen to it anymore, and they can resume their ignorance.
How do you change it? Obviously it cannot be changed by elections. What other options are there? Let us look to the United States Constitution for answers. Article V of the Constitution.
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.
Yes, the state legislatures can call for a constitutional convention to propose amendments to the United States Constitution. North Dakota and Louisiana have taken leadership and proposed a convention. 34 staes must apply for the convention in order for it to happen though. We need to start focusing on our state legislatures and get the ball rolling on this.
The proposed amendments I would like to see.
1. Term limits for congress. No more than 12 years. (2 Senate terms, 6 house terms)
2. Repeal the 17th Amendment
3. Balanced Budget Ammendment
4. Debt limit increase must be approved by 3/5 state legislatures.
I am sure there would be others proposed as well.
There are those who would argue that calling a constitutional convention would be a disaster. I argue that there is no other way to bring about the needed changes to get the country back on the right track.
Identifying Class Warfare.
This is a blog post for the democrats and politically uneducated among us. You can use this in your own debates. The class warfare has really been ratcheted up over the debt ceiling debate. It is really easy to identify once you know what to look for.
Here is an example from one of Obama's speeches. "How can we ask seniors to pay more for medicare, and not ask corporate jets owners to pay their fair share."
This statement is made for one reason and one reason only. Hate the corporate jet owner and feel sorry for the senior citizen. It does not matter that the top 10% of wage earners pay 73% of the total federal income taxes. It does not matter that congress has raided the medicare and social security funds and depleted them. It is clearly said to raise taxes on the "rich"
Now let me put a twist on this same statement and show how ridiculous it is. "How can we ask third world dictators to not expect our foreign aid, and not expect corporate jet owners to pay more taxes to send to those third world countries."
Here is another one. "How can we expect the United Nations to live without the United States paying 22% of their budget, and not ask rich people to pay higher taxes."
Another one. "How can we cut off funding to illegal immigrants seeking medical care, and not ask rich people to pay higher taxes to pay for those illegal's medical care."
The difference is that class warfare pits American against American. It totally leaves out huge parts of the budget that go to foreign countries and organizations. It's always rich vs grandma, corporate jets vs children with autism, oil companies vs little Jimmies college grant.
Now you know how to recognize class warfare and what a joke it is. It is simply laid out there to get an emotional response from you. Do not fall for it.
PS. Ask yourself this one question. What is the origin of debt to those rich people? Why should they be made to pay more when others pay nothing? Would the situation change if those who receive benefits from government were forced to go directly to that rich person and demand payment?
