Obama cracking down on spending!
In what amounts to Obama's response to last week's Tea Parties and complaints about tremendous growth in government spending, Obama gathered his cabinet yesterday and laid down the law for some real "cuts" in spending. A whole hundred million dollar's worth, (doing neat things the government should already be doing...like buying office supplies in bulk). And remember that these "cuts" are cuts in the increases he's already proposed over last year's spending...meaning we're still spending more.
Of course, this is the same President who told us all the we needed to be doing all of the deficit spending to "stimulate" the economy, (what, no stimulation for office supply retailers?). Of course, we all know that's not really what all this spending is all about...it's about expanding government and government control. Not to mention that such deficit spending puts us on a path for massive tax increases and inflation. We'll see just how "stimulating" that is to the economy in the months and years to come.
No word on whether the government is looking for a Sam's Club card as well.
Missle defense works
This story points out why missile defense is important...especially if you're in a country that's likely to be targeted with missiles. Like Isreal. Their leaders want to do the responsible thing and install missile defense systems in the southern part of the country to defend against missiles launched from Gaza, and those that might come from Iran, etc.. Given how much the US would love for Israel not to take "offensive" measures to protect itself, defense becomes a more attractive option. And it works.
What's so funny about the story is that Israel wants to buy the system from the United States...who's new President is looking to cut US missile defense.
Obama withheld info in CIA memos
In Obama and Pals latest attempt to heap scorn on the Bush administration, they threw the country's national security cocerns to the wind and released CIA memos detailing the enhanced interdogation techniques that were used against many captured terrorists in the War on Terror, (sorry, the Overseas Contingency Operation).
What they did not release however (in those same memos) was what information about what possible pending terrorist attacks was gleaned. In other words, what bad guys wanting to do bad stuff to Americans did we stop. All that info was blacked out in the memos. Obama's folks know good and well that the "story" in the media would have become the "who, what, when, where" of the prevented attacks...not how "evil" the Bush administration was.
Conservatives as "terrorists"
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano defended including conservatives such as pro-lifers and Second Amendment advocates as possible terrorists in an interview on CNN Sunday.
She refused to give any concrete examples groups that caused her agency to include them in a report to police on terrorism, claiming the total number of groups overall on all potential domestic issues were "far too numerous to mention."
Guess she couldn't get all of our names in the report.
