Why Corporations Are Persons and Fetuses Are Not
On Tuesday the Mississippi electorate will vote on a controversial amendment to the state constitution declaring that “the term ‘person’ [is] defined to include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the equivalent thereof.” The Mississippi Personhood Amendment, as it is known, is echoed by similar ballot measures in a half dozen other states.
Since it is illegal to murder a person in all states, and all states have laws dispensing jail time or even the death penalty for murder, the logical conclusion from these referenda is that they will instantly reclassify a broad swath of society as felons. Have pro-life advocates prepared state corrections officials for the flood of recently pregnant women, abortion doctors, and “morning after” pill consumers they’ll be sending to the pen or the gas chamber?
Mississippi’s law, the most extreme state personhood referendum on the ballot this year, would ban all abortions, some forms of birth control, and all embryonic stem cell research.
Jessica Valenti notes that Proposition 26 would “prioritize the rights of fertilized eggs over the rights of the women carrying them.” Passage of the law would lead to the absurdity of proclaiming unused but fertilized eggs in a Petri dish to be persons and outlawing in vitro fertilization.
Pro-life conservatives have been crowing about the recent spate of stealth victories their movement has won on the state level. In The Weekly Standard, Fred Barnes explains that this progress has been possible largely because gay marriage has become the more visible social issue in recent years and has detracted attention from continuing behind-the-scenes efforts to restrict abortion. Such advances are supported, Barnes argues, by technological breakthroughs in sonogram quality, which have made fetuses seem more developed and autonomous than imagined. read more »
The Science Of Victimization.
We suffered a malfunction. The lights went out on our main site. At first I thought, okay, it must have been the article that Dee recently managed to slip by the editorial staff at the Daily Kos. My imagination summoned a legion of spittle-drooling, knuckle-dragging hackers in their mothers’ basements mounting an assault against our sites.
We had certainly stirred up an ants nest over there, as it was. There were some panties over there so twisted up it was cutting off their circulation. We had much the same thing happen a couple of times when the Huff ‘n Puff Post published a couple of our articles, probably because an editor published off a headline or a sub-head without reading the article. The results were hysterical. It was just as though we took a stick and stirred up a nest of Texas Fire Ants. Some of them actually actively looked for us for several months. Cute trick, since we publish from ‘somewhere’ in Wales.
So the lights went out and it was because of the bank’s apparent inability to post a payment on time. Gee, there it is, Dee… we’re victims. Victims of big banking. What a hoot. That’s exactly what the whole ‘progressive’ movement is all about. Taking victimization and attempting to codify it.
As genuinely sick and tired as I am of listening to the statist Lame Stream Press carry water for the left and its Marxist agenda, I can take solace from readers comments on the subject saying much the same things. They are (the statists) steadily losing ground and influence, and they know it. read more »
Tax the 47% So They’ll Leave the Other 53% Alone
Presidential candidate Herman Cain is touting his 9-9-9 tax plan, which would replace the three-million-word tax code with a flat 9% federal income tax, 9% corporate tax, and 9% national sales tax.
Fellow candidate Rick Perry recently proposed a flat tax of 20% on earned income and 20% on corporate income, and a simplification of the tax code including elimination of loopholes and eradication of the death tax. Newt Gingrich has similarly suggested a 15% flat tax.
These plans recall the flat tax Steve Forbes campaigned for president on in 1996 and 2000. All of these plans, in addition to numerous other benefits, would massively reduce the U.S.’s collective tax compliance cost to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars. (Though liberals don’t realize it, it would be a fantastic thing for our economy if every employee of the Internal Revenue Service, H&R Block, and every tax lawyer, accountant, and tax preparation service employee lost his job and had to go out and find useful productive work.)
In response to these Republican candidates’ thoughtful proposals, liberals are screaming that conservatives’ plan for getting us out of our present fiscal crisis is to “tax the poor.”
If only we could get out of our current budget predicament by taxing the poor. In fact, we can’t even get out of it by taxing the rich.
As has been amply demonstrated, massively increasing taxes on high earners wouldn’t come close to relieving our budget woes, which can be alleviated only via radical entitlement reform. Eating the rich now will not ensure an enriching long-term diet for the nation later. read more »
Obama’s Middle East Blunders Come Home To Roost.
Or, depending on where you are on the conspiracy ladder, all is according to plan. So how’s that nation-building scheme workin’ now, Mr President? It’s apparent that wherever our young President dabbles in mid-east diplomacy, the crescent is in ascendancy.
It made me laugh listening to the academized boneheads of the administration vomiting forth platitudes of a ‘democratic Arab Spring’… a democratic Egypt… a democratic Libya. Kumbaya and other fairy tails.
Meanwhile, our intrepid Barack Hussein works diligently to ensure that our mission in Afghanistan fails and the Taliban take over. Starve our troops in Afghanistan of tactical support, as well as supply. Cripple them with rules of engagement just short of suicidal. The finest military in the world wasted… for what? A monument to Barack Obama’s cowardice? Or something more sinister?
Desperation move. Barack Obama, in a desperate move to pull his fragmented base together, has summarily declared that our remaining 25,000 troops in Iraq will be removed, leaving that country undefended. This is a very poor political decision fraught with peril. If we have to go back into Iraq, which is a pretty fair possibility, it will cost far more in American lives and treasure than had we simply stayed there as the strongly stabilizing influence we have been. read more »
Libya Not The Democracy We Were Promised, But Thanks To Who?
After months of hearing commentators say how good it was to see “Democracy” finally coming to Libya, we now know for a fact that was a dream if there ever was one. I was one of many who had their doubts about war in Libya, not because Col. Gaddafi was a good man but because what could have come and taken over could have been far worse and much more difficult to control from our end as a world power.
Our worries were justified, and no matter what the President says about “Democracy” in that part of the world, we the people know better. There is no democracy coming to Libya or any other of these nations, but what we will see is much worse than what we have seen in Northern Africa and the Middle East in our life times. You want to know who to blame for this, you do not not have to look too far!
It is very simple to blame the President of the United States for this when it was European powers who pushed this attack and pushed for help for the rebels, but the United States did not have to come on board with anything. We could have stayed out of the conflict and allowed Europe to deal with the trouble that came after. Instead, we have heard less and less about European involvement and much, much more about the United States involvement in Libya. This is because if it was not for the United States there would have been no NATO bombings which led to the demise of the Gaddafi regime. The end of the regime that we could control, for the most part, came about because the “Anti-War” President, the man given the Nobel Peace Prize, decided to back rebels that he KNEW would institute anything but Democracy inside Libya. We the people saw this coming, so it is tough to say the President and those ion our government did not see it coming. While we may not see a threat from Libya in the near future, we just may have created the next Iran without even thinking about the consequences of our actions. read more »
The new Security Issue
Or...How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm?
I have a feeling I'm being bamboozled lately. What's this thing about Mexican trucks being allowed to cross the U. S. border and bring goods into the United States? Don't we have enough problems with people--mostly illegals--smuggling drugs and people over the border without a free-for-all for Mexican trucks?
This whole issue goes back to 2009 when a pilot program was in place to allow trucks from approved vendors to cross deep into the U. S. to deliver goods. At the time, the albeit new President, Barack Obama, pulled the plug on the program—and Mexico decided to put tariffs on some of their agricultural products being shipped to the United States. Ah, but when a meeting of the minds took place this past summer, the tariffs all but disappeared—and tomorrow, those same (2009) pre-approved vendors will be rolling along our highways.
(I wonder if we boycotted Mexican produce avec tariffs, if their economy would disintegrate.)
So, is this about trade and tariffs? Why isn’t Mexico paying for the monitoring devices to be installed on all Mexican trucks from selected companies south of the border that are allowed entry?
And what about U. S. teamsters and those involved in transportation of goods inside the U. S.? Won't jobs be lost?
So, what’s the up-side of this program for the U. S. taxpayer?
These are some of the questions one would hope that President Obama had considered prior to his taxpayer-paid journey to Mexico to see President Felipe Calderon. There, the two heads-of-states put their heads together to come up with such a plan. Frankly, I am concerned about Mexican trucks' access to U. S. Highways and safety issues.
What is the down-side?
Yes, my thoughts exactly -- the security issue. On occasion, the national news media hits on the topic of a "dirty bomb" being sent through shipping containers to large ports here in the Unites States. What's to keep terrorists from sending one through on a tractor-trailer bound for Texas? They'd only need to get as far as the border to release their evil plans on unsuspecting border inspectors who are looking for Listeria on cantaloupes.
It's obvious to me that Obama was not concerned with these issues--though one would hope his staff was. And mark my words: We haven't just opened the door to foreign trade with a contiguous neighbor--we have opened the door to what remains of our once-secure future.
Republican Debate Raises Eyebrows, Asks More Questions Than It Answers
For anyone who was able to watch the debate and not either fall asleep or just walk away in disgust and the whole process, you were one of the many who saw a back and forth cage match pitting Romney vs. Perry, Ron Paul acting like Ron Paul, Santorum trying to become relevant, and Cain trying stave off even more attacks to his 9-9-9 plan.
Basically, in the most simplest terms, the same as the last debate with a different moderator, different questions, and a different setting. As I have said since I was a young boy, “Same crap, different day.”
You may ask why I am being so hard on this process of debates, and one of the reasons is that the process as a whole is making me sick at this point. When you try to sit here and listen to all the ideas and all the double talk that comes from many of these candidates, it really wears on you mentally. You have no idea who to support because one man says something you may agree with and the man you agreed with yesterday says something that makes you sick and someone who is irrelevant still makes it a point to make sure the American people know we spend too much money. Thank you Ron Paul, I get it! I know we spend too much money. But that is not the worst of it all. The worst of it all is when we hear that primaries may start in December and there are not too many everyday Republicans out there that are too happy about it. read more »
Socialists in Dems clothing
I think I have discovered the real reason Occupy Wall Street exists
This will be short, as night has fallen and it's time for me to retire with my latest reading material and the dog.
Earlier, I was watching the Occupy Wall Streeters on the national news again, listening to them and reading signs, and I finally saw one sign that was "out of the closet," so to speak. It read, "Join Socialism."
Straight and to the point.
No cries of the poor, or of being bottom feeders of the 1%. No caterwauling about wanting to destroy Corporate America or Capitalism. No nothing, except honesty--which in this case is offensive to my sense of patriotism.
The Wolves in Sheeps' Clothing are none other than the Dems, trying to hide their Socialist mantle and yet affect the masses with their faux rhetoric, or not. One needs to look no further than the fecal mess and scattered trash on private park property to know the stand they take is solely for themselves, so that their idea of government will evolve to see to their every need, no matter how slight.
After all, how could they afford to take a month off work to protest, if Corporate America wasn't paying their way?
Economic Ignorance
Where Oh Where Has The GOP Gone? – And Other Tales.
I’ve been quite proud of the way our Republican House has behaved, for the most part… and disappointed in our leadership in equal proportion. In this political environment, here and now is the time… there is no tomorrow if we don’t deal with the reality of today. We simply do not have the luxury of fostering a weak leadership, whose first instinct on any issue is to compromise. We must have solid conservative leadership grounded in the fundamentals of the Constitution.
The establishment Republicans have all but allied themselves with the DeMarxists in their efforts to delegitimize the Patriot Movement. The attacks in the statist Lame Stream Press have been incessant, with the usual spiels starting with charges of racism and then running the full gamut of leftist bleatings… ‘We’re (the Tea Party) going to stuff granny in the dumpster, wheelchair and all’. ‘We’re against women and children, because we oppose the Department of Education and the teachers’ unions’.
Occupy Wall Street: Abandoning the Law to Save It
Last week a concerned reader took issue with my negative comparison of the Occupy Wall Street protests to the Tea Party rallies—in particular my statement that “Tea Party rallies have been amazingly peaceful, with not a single arrest… across hundreds of cities and thousands of events…” The reader was correct—there were in fact Tea Party arrests I had overlooked.
In March of 2011, Jim Canelos was arrested in Mohave County, Arizona for wearing a flag hat at a county supervisors’ meeting that prohibited wearing hats.
In February of 2010, Mervin Fried was arrested in Kingman, Arizona for bringing a symbolic pitchfork to a protest in a county administration building. Fried argued that the county already allowed citizens to carry guns—a more dangerous weapon—into government buildings, and was later acquitted.
Most notably, in November of 2009, ten protestors angry over ObamaCare were arrested for engaging in disorderly conduct outside Nancy Pelosi’s office in Washington, D.C. The ralliers were discovered to have been organized by rabid anti-abortion activist and Democrat Randall Terry of Operation Rescue.
That’s it! A dozen Tea Party arrests in two-and-a-half years, most tied to anti-abortion protestors. Given the media’s left-wing slant, you can be sure that every arrest ever made at a Tea Party rally in the tiniest hamlet in the country has been thoroughly documented.
Now that we’ve gotten that straight, let’s examine the arrest record of Occupy Wall Street, which just hit its one-month anniversary: read more »
Texas High School Students Made To Recite Mexican National Anthem, Mexican Pledge Of Allegiance
Texas High School Students Made To Recite Mexican National Anthem, Mexican Pledge Of Allegiance
As if this nation did not have enough problems, now we learn that a high school in Texas, Achieve Early College High School, a public high school in the state of Texas. Just knowing the United States National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance is not enough anymore, students must now learn to have a little pride for their neighbors to the south as well.
These students were forced to stand and recite these Mexican Allegiances, and the one girl who refused was forced to do another assignment. The school defends the action because it is a state requirement that all students learn a second language, but I do not think it is a requirement to force students to pledge allegiance to another country, especially during the week of the anniversary of 9/11. This also took place, funny enough, on Constitution Day, and the student, Brenda Brinsdon, made her complaints known to the school district. Her father also made complaints to the district as well, but was told this is required for the students. Watch the video and tell me what should be required in this video? read more »
Doobs, Boobs, Bums, Thugs And The Nutcake Parade.
Never before have the ultimate fruits of our Marxist-leaning public schools been put on display the way they have in these last weeks. It’s striking how much alike these Wall Street ‘occupiers’ are.
I, like most Americans who’ve taken time to listen to the choruses of unending diatribe coming from these people, notice that it’s remarkably the same screed coming from group to group, wherever these people congregate… if it can be called a message. It’s actually more of a melange of regurgitated Marxist claptrap. Right from the mouths of leftist agitators, college and university professors, even high school and grade school teachers. This is what our billions and billions of education dollars purchased.
These empty-headed, vacuous kids and not-so-kids are precisely the product the left has been after for sixty or more years. Want to see what happens when parents abrogate their responsibility to instill character? These are spoiled, for the most part privileged, brats from middle and upper-middle income groups. There are obviously others involved, aging hippies with their gray ponytails and Birkenstocks. Of course, there’s the odd admixture of dopers, dealers and anarchists as well.
Let us not forget that Barack Obama’s White House immediately jumped out to champion these ne’er-do-wells, seeking to perhaps bail some water from his sinking Titanic. Worse yet was the gaggle of DeMarxist freaks that trailed out behind him in the statist media. From Debbie (The Mouth) Wasserman Schultz to Michael (I’m filthy rich, a corporation in my own right, but I’m one of you) Moore… who it is said can clear a whole square by himself by simply walking upwind from it. read more »
A Few Facts for the Occupy Wall Street Idiots
You're protesting the wrong "Robber Barons"
You're protesting the wrong "Robber Barons"
As usual the liberal progressive socialist Marxist's have got it wrong. They are currently ranting and raving about bankers, investors, corporate CEO's, etc., who based on their performance and guidance, reap the rewards of their fiscal acumen. Most of these perceived "Robber Barons" are paid on the profitability of said corporations they run. They in essence get paid on the value of their work not the volume or lack there of like most of the unions thugs and Democratic politicians and communist idealists like the Hollywood crowd that now join their ranks.
The problem with the government educated useless idiots that "Occupy Wall Street" cannot be summed up in a few words, because they themselves, as all "useless idiots" are, are a mob with a mob mentality not a singular view point. Their anti-American progressive socialist behavior is too deeply rooted. It has been hammered into them by a corrupted education system that since the formation of the Dept. of Education by the Socialist Ruling Class Elites has focused entirely on indoctrinating this Nations youth into their dogma. They have spent the last 144 years creating it. read more »

Occupy Wall Street Protesters Suspicious Of Plan To Move Them From Park To Clean, Soros Connection Revealed
Occupy Wall Street Protesters Suspicious Of Plan To Move Them From Park To Clean
Maybe if George Soros told them to move they would listen! (You like that little way I worked in George Soros and these protests, right? Yeah, I know you did!) In all seriousness though, worrying that they will not let you back in after they clean is not something that they can control anyway. The city could decide to change where the protesters are allowed to be, and they would be within their rights to do so. read more »
Saudi’s Say Iran Must ‘Pay The Price’ For Plot As The Obama Administration Fumbles
Saudi’s Say Iran Must ‘Pay The Price’ For Plot
The plot, or should I say ALLEGED plot, connected to Iran to kill a Saudi Ambassador is reaching its boiling point as the Saudi government is saying that Iran will have to ‘pay the price’ for their actions. There seems to be enough evidence to make the Saudi’s believe that this was a real and credible threat to one of their own, and they are not backing down. read more »
California, You’d Better Wake Up… Soon!
So while you were California dreaming… that’s if you still had a California job, that’s if your company hasn’t had to pull up stakes and head for business-friendly territory out of the increasingly repressive governance of (Red) Jerry Brown and his equally (red) state legislature, better known, perhaps, as Ali Brownee and the sixty-seven banditos… the 43 Republicans in the legislature, for the most part, have been valiantly but largely ineffectively trying to slow the Marxist juggernaut, which with the aid and collusion of the state’s public service unions, whose collective unfunded liability to the state is in excess of 40 billion dollars, has them spending millions of dollars in an entitlement turf war of massive proportions, between the unions and the nutcase hard left that California has no lack of. Then you introduce and add up all of the minority and special privilege, er, interest groups which have always been the hallmark of the left.
Few states have felt the crippling reach of the statists more than California. You know, if you strip away the state and federal government’s figures and substitute them for actual statistics, the unemployment rate in this state is over 16%. And, as I’ve mentioned before, there are pockets of unemployment in this state approaching 40%. read more »

Report: White House Met With 3 Romney Advisers To Craft Obamacare
News moves fast these days, and today the Romney camp has probably felt great pride (with his establishment buddy Christie set to endorse him) and the great lows of what comes out of passing a health care plan that is holding the campaign back in the first place. NBC News is reporting that back in 2009, three former Romney aides who helped him craft Romneycare visited the White House on numerous occasions to discuss how the health care law in Massachusetts could be shaped into a national plan.
This is bad news for the Romney campaign when it was hard enough for him to explain away his actions on that legislation to begin with. This makes it that much harder for him to brush it off. read more »
