How Obama Lies
Beneath the cover in the health care debate
An email today from Mybarrackobama.com asked me to write a letter to my local paper and post it on Facebook. The email said:
"An alarming new study shows that health care costs increased last year at the fastest rate in more than a half century. Health care spending rose to an estimated $2.5 trillion in 2009, or $8,047 per person -- and is now projected to nearly double by 2019. If we don't act, this growing burden will mean more lost jobs, more families pushed into bankruptcy, and more crushing debt for our nation. The conclusion is clear: This isn't a problem we can kick down the road for another decade -- or even another year. We need to pass health reform now."
Readers will note an initial lie (act of omission) that although this was an html email there was no link provided to that "alarming new study." Don't want you folks being influenced by facts or informed about the source of the 'study'. The second lie, discovered on actually finding the study, was that most of that additional health care spending was by the government. It was being spent on people in government health plans like Medicaid and Medicare. The government spending had been heavily influenced by government policies to spend more. It had also been influenced by the first wave of baby boomers transitioning to Medicare. The source of the article and the link to the acutal study was published at Healthaffairs.org, a site operated by Project Hope , the People to People Foundation. That site has regularly advocated for Obama's government health care takeover. Recent articles published there include "Getting health reform done" and " After the State of the Union, Health Reform- the need to move forward." The study itself however was published by a group of actuaries employed by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS is the arm of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which oversees Medicare and Medicaid. From this chain of events we can see the DHS publishes a study saying health spending (mostly by them) is expanding at an 'alarming' rate. An advocate for Obama's health takeover publishes the study. The White House promotes the studies conclusions without reference to the source and urges citizens to spam their local newspaper editors with letters promoting Obama's health takeover and citing out of context snippets from the government study. The White House email asserts If we don't act, this growing burden will mean more lost jobs, more families pushed into bankruptcy, and more crushing debt for our nation. What the White House email purposefully omits is that the growing burden is being created by government. As a result it admits that government itself is causing lost jobs. The government itself through higher taxes and inflationary impetus from creating money from this air is pushing American families into bankruptcy and adding crushing debt to the nation. Joe Wilson was right when he famously characterized President Obama: You Lie!
