Support a Balanced Budget Amendment
Fellow conservatives,
Soon the federal government will reach its current legal debt limit of 14.3 trillion dollars, and the only way it can stay open is if Congress raises that limit.
That means Obama needs Republican support – which means they have leverage. The question is, will they use it?
Will they use it for a long term solution, or just some cosmetic cuts or reductions in the rate of growth?

Year after year Congress borrows more money and then spends all that it borrows; and year after year they vote to increase our national debt limit. It’s like being able to increase your credit limit after you’ve maxed out your credit cards.
Now we’re borrowing money to make payments on the money we’ve borrowed. That’s called insolvency, and it’s where we’re headed if we don’t change course fast.
Whether Republican or Democrat, Congress has shown no ability to live within its means. The ONLY solution is to amend our Constitution to REQUIRE Congress to balance the budget.
Anything short of that is an open door to continue down – or eventually get back on – the same path we are on now.
(Tell members of Congress to support the Balanced Budget Amendment!)
We must strike while the iron is hot. With a new conservative majority in the House of Representatives, and many more conservatives in the Senate, we may have our best chance ever to push for a Balanced Budget Amendment. When you add to that the fact that many vulnerable Senate Democrats are up for reelection in 2012, NOW IS THE TIME!
Call on Republicans to use their leverage to support passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment in exchange for any increase in the debt limit – or else let Obama face huge cuts in spending as a result of not being able to “borrow” any more to spend.
This debate is beginning now – and we need to help build grassroots support for an amendment and pressure members of Congress to pass it.
Sign the petition and forward it to others.
Send a message to your members of Congress letting them know how you feel. Tell them you will not support candidates at the ballot box who don’t vote to pass the Balanced Budget Amendment. (click here for more congressional contact information)
As Rham Emanuel famously suggested, a crisis is a terrible thing to waste. It’s time that we put this crisis to good use.
