Oil

One of the most defining pictures of Oil was the Spindletop gusher in
Beaumont, Texas in 1901, since then it has been a war to control
supply all over the world.
Oil drives everything in our society, not one thing is untouched by
oil. Ever think about plastic? How about rubber?
Vaseline? I know, who uses that anymore now that we have KY, but
you get the point eh?
Soaring oil prices drive up everything and now we are taking
precious farmland to grow corn for ethanol and not for food. All food
prices will go up because of this and ethanol actually takes more
energy to make than the benefits it would give out.
Oil is the main driving force of the world economy.
I was watching a special on the Clinton News Network, about a
fantasized oil shortage by terrorism attacks in Saudi Arabia. It's
simply amazing that people are so hypnotized by the possibility
of an oil shortage. It's somewhat akin to people running around
like chickens with their heads cut off.
Human civilization has existed for thousands of years without oil,
what makes these people think life will end without it?
Human civilization will change, but it will not be eliminated.
Besides, humanity needs a little jolt anyway. We have so much
knowledge and so little desire to use it. Nuclear power is certainly
one answer but the incident at Three Mile Island still have people
scared.
The future takes risks, just like you getting into your car to drive
to work. Anything can happen, just take the risk.
