'Oooops' of Office
Bygones!!!
The Obama Presidency is becoming more and more historic by the hour!
In an extremely rare move - to ensure that Barack Obama does, indeed, hold sway over the executive branch of our federal government - Chief Justice John Roberts re-swore Obama into office on Wednesday night at the White House.
Only two other presidents have retaken their oath of office - Calvin Coolidge and Chester A. Arthur. Coolidge did so in 1923 following the death of Warren G. Harding, when it was determined that the oath he swore to while in Vermont which was administered by his father, who was a notary in that state, was only binding within that one state. In 1881, Chester A. Arthur's decision to take the oath of office was more for theatrics, as he had already been sworn in by Supreme Court Justice John R. Brady while in New York, and upon arriving in Washington, D.C. two days later, retook the oath only ceremonially for the onlookers in the capital city.
More from FoxNews.com:
In a rare do-over, President Obama took the oath of office for a second time Wednesday after Chief Justice John Roberts and the new president had stumbled slightly over the oath's language on Inauguration Day.
Some constitutional scholars had suggested that Obama retake the oath just to be on the safe side. Obama did not substantively change any language on Tuesday, but after Roberts flubbed some of the wording the new president used language different from that prescribed in the Constitution...
Despite the mulligan and the measure taken yesterday out of "an abundance of caution", it is universally accepted that... No, Joe Biden... you most certainly were NOT actually the President of the United States for a good 24 hours or so - Despite what your resume is sure to later state.
