Our nation is more than $16 trillion in debt. With stubbornly high unemployment, 23 million Americans are out of work while millions more settle for part-time jobs; half of college graduates can’t find work at all and are moving back in with their parents. Nearly a quarter of homeowners are underwater with their mortgages. The Middle East is in a free fall, Iran is fast-tracking its nuclear capability and instead of Al Qaeda being on the run, they are killing our ambassadors and grooming more terrorists. Medicare is going broke yet it is being pillaged to help fund Obamacare.
Regardless of political leanings, reasonable people can agree that we need a serious dialogue on how to confront America’s myriad challenges. Instead what are we getting—particularly from the supporters of President Obama—are fabricated fripperies irresponsibly disseminated in the mainstream media, instant websites, memes, Twitter hashtags, and Facebook pages. Vile comments and images are spreading like maggots on roadkill. Call it the Fluking of America.
WAR ON WOMEN: With Sandra Fluke (rhymes with "duck") as their poster child, the left has tried to depict Republicans as nefarious brown shirts out to confiscate women's birth control pills. At the Democratic National Convention last month, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Jennifer Granholm, Caroline Kennedy, Hollywood twits Scarlett Johansson and Eva Longoria, and a parade of other abortion lovin’ activists waved the flag in demagogic outrage. Despite their best efforts, American women aren’t arming themselves in righteous self-defense. War on Women? One Big Flop.
BIG BIRD: According to Obama acolytes, Governor Romney’s proposal to take away Big Bird’s big salary makes him a big bad man. Twitter was atwitter with thousands of derisive swipes, which ironically generated as many rejoinders scorning their trifling cause. But they haven't given up yet. When you think it couldn’t become any sillier, supporters are planning a November 3rd “Million Muppet March ” in Washington D.C.
BINDERS FULL OF WOMEN: In the second presidential debate, Mitt Romney said that during his tenure as Massachusetts governor he had requested “binders full of women” to help recruit qualified female candidates to his cabinet. Like Big Bird, the left’s bogus hysteria over the objectification of women has boomeranged making them look like unserious ninnies. Maybe because they are unserious ninnies.
ROMNESIA: Not a good sign when a candidate descends to patronizing voters on the campaign trail. Mr. President, labeling your opponent as suffering from “stage three Romnesia ” might elicit snorts of laughter from loyalists but snark with a tasteless cancer analogy does nothing to instill honor in the office you hold. It is insensitive, undignified and we deserve better.
HORSES AND BAYONETS: Based on the Democrat's guffawing over the President's belittling response to Romney's debate criticism regarding our shrinking military capability, you would think he scored a big coup. Obama is simply wrong on the facts (the Marines still use bayonets and last I checked aircraft carriers do float in the water) yet that hasn’t slowed down his media rapid response team. Then again truthfulness is not the point. To paraphrase James Carville: It’s the sneering, stupid.
Long after the polls close in two weeks, the 2012 election will be remembered for the Democrat's campaign of promulgating fear, obfuscation and contempt. If that is what our political discourse has descended to, then we are all “fluked.”
