Obamacare still good deal for illegal aliens
surprise, surprise
In what should come as a shock to absolutely nobody in this country, a look at the details of the latest version of Obamacare demonstrates that it's still a sweet deal for the millions of illegal (soon to be given amnesty) aliens in this country.
A report from the Center for Immigration Studies took a look at the fine print of both the current House and Senate versions of health care "reform", (all 4,000 plus pages) and finds that, surprise, illegals will indeed get access to taxpayer funded health care benefits.
The highlights:
- HR 3962 ensures illegal alien access to the exchange and public option. HR 3590 states illegal immigrants are excluded from these.
- Both bills ostensibly bar illegal aliens from receiving the premium subsidy, and both bills use some form of eligibility verification for the subsidy.
- Both bills expand Medicaid eligibility. Both bills lack verification requirements based on citizenship or immigrant status. Both contain serious loopholes to enroll illegal aliens easily into Medicaid. HR 3962 automatically covers anchor babies.
- The eligibility verification process in each bill falls woefully short of protecting taxpayer liability to cover or subsidize people living unlawfully in the United States. Both the House and Senate bills’ verification processes will encourage large-scale fraud and abuse.
- The Senate bill exempts illegal aliens from the mandate that everyone have health insurance or else face a tax penalty. This perverse exemption treats illegal aliens better than the bill treats American citizens.
Democrat says "We're going to let you die" as health reform
AARP, are you listening?
"We're going to let you die."
As incredible as it may sound, those are the words of Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton, in a speech given two years ago whose premise was "what a Democrat presidential candidate would say if he wasn't worried about getting elected".
You don't say.
His remarks were caught on audio, (much to the chagrin of those pushing Obamacare right now), and you can listen to them by clicking the "video" below. A transcript of his comments is posted below as well, (via WSJ).
It's interesting how, as you listen to his comments, you can see how much of what he says looks an awful lot like some of the elements of (and logical consequences of) current Democrat health care proposals.
Enjoy... and pass it on!
TRASCRIPT:
I will actually give you a speech made up entirely--almost
at the spur of the moment, of what a candidate for president would say
if that candidate did not care about becoming president. In other
words, this is what the truth is, and a candidate will never say, but
what candidates should say if we were in a kind of democracy where
citizens were honored in terms of their practice of citizenship, and
they were educated in terms of what the issues were, and they could
separate myth from reality in terms of what candidates would tell them:
Say NO to Socialized Medicine - on Facebook!
new tools for the campaign
We have another upgrade to our campaign to "Say NO to Socialized Medicine" and stop Obamacare.
Now you can participate (and invite others to do so) on Facebook!
The campaign is available here, on the "Take Aktion!" tab of our Facebook page.
From there you can sign the petition, fax your members of Congress, join the campaign - and invite others to participate as well. But now you can use your Facebook network to help spread the word!
As you know, liberals in Congress are still working to push for a government run "public option", despite the opposition of the American people.
It is critical that they continue to hear from us - which means we must keep up the pressure and continue to spread the word!
We've just made it easier to do exactly that by making our campaign available on Facebook.
Help spread the word by joining our campaign on Facebook and invite your friends to join as well.
You can also take your support to the next level by adding the campaign application to your Facebook profile. This will allow you to add the campaign to a "Take Aktion!" tab that can appear on your profile and make it easy for others to see your support of the campaign.
Simply click the blue "Go to Application" button in the upper left corner of the AktNow application page, then click "allow" to give it permission to run on your Facebook profile. (See the example below) read more »
The vindication of Joe Wilson
Dems want illegals in Obamacare
It looks like some apologies might be due in Joe Wilson's direction if certain Democrats have their way.
Why is that? Because after months of denying there would be a move to add illegal aliens to any government subsidized health care, the mask came off this week as Democrats moved to specifically include illegal aliens in the pending health care bills.
A large group of House Democrats are working to amend the House healthcare bill to specifically include subsidized coverage for illegal aliens. And the radical group LaRaza is calling on its members to contact Senators and "flood their voicemail" telling them to do the same - and drop any mandatory citizenship verification for coverage.
And they're in a hurry too.
They just rejected a Republican proposal to have at least three days to review a final bill - and they stopped a proposal to actually have the bill written out in legislative language BEFORE it gets voted on.
What they want it clear. They want to ramrod an end product that will be full-blown, government run "Obamacare" - which will include illegal aliens.
During August conservatives brought tremendous pressure on Congress. And support for government run healthcare is at an all time low. read more »
Why Obama opposes malpractice caps revealed!
money, money!
Despite his pretense at maybe being interested in medical malpractice related tort reform, Obama and his buddies on the left have done absolutely nothing to make it a real part of any "reforms" they have proposed, either in the past, or now as part of "Obamacare".
Why? Well, Mark Tapscott has some thoughts on that in his column today:
What caught my eye...concerns a little known fact about a long-forgotten class-action lawsuit filed in 1994 by three young trial lawyers, one of whom just happens to be sitting in the Oval Office today as president. The case was Selma S. Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Federal Savings Bank.
Obama and his colleagues claimed in the suit that Citibank had had rejected loan applications by the plaintiffs simply because they were black, or because they lived in predominantly black neighborhoods. In short, the suit was one of thousands filed during the 1990s claiming racial bigotry, not poor credit histories, explained high rejection rates among minorities applying for mortgages.
Whatever you think on that issue, here's what struck me: After four years of haggling, Citibank settled with Buyck, a Chicago woman, out of court. She received $60,000. Obama and the other lawyers on the plaintiff side got $950,000.
Baucus plan offers more of the same
(just a "lite" label)
Democrat Senate Finance Chairm Max Baucus released his committee's version of health care "reform" a few days ago, but in the end it pleases pretty much no one.
Liberals don't care for it because it doesn't openly ram a government run system through in the light of day. I suppose they don't like the idea of having to try and hide what they're really up to?
As for conservatives, the reasons to oppose it are a good bit more obvious...
TheWSJ does a good job of suming it up:
To sum up, the Baucus-Obama plan would increase the cost of insurance and then force people to buy it, requiring subsidies. Those subsidies would be paid for by taxes that make health care and thus insurance even more expensive, requiring even more subsidies and still higher taxes. It's a recipe to ruin health care and bankrupt the country, and that's even before liberal Democrats see Mr. Baucus and raise him, and then attempt to ram it all through the Senate.
And therein lies the primary problem of any Republicans getting on board at this point with a "bi-partisan" proposal. Before it's over, a committee proposal has to get through the full Senate...and then it will inevitably be made even worse in a conference committee with the liberals from the House of Representatives. Which means that the final product would look a whole lot closer to the current House version than anything most Americans would prefer to see become law. read more »
Doesn’t Matter What This Column Says—You’ll Call It Racism
Jonathan Martin of Politico notes that even though racism against the president is widespread, “it’s still a sensitive enough issue that the [Democratic] party doesn’t broach it directly.” By “sensitive,” of course, he means “far-fetched, ludicrous, and laughable.”
Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA) claims that in Senator Joe Wilson’s outburst toward the president last week, Wilson “kind of winked at that element” of the U.S. that disrespects Obama because he is black. I’m not sure what criminal statutes are on the books for “kind of winking” at an “element,” but I do know that Democrats’ charges of racism until recently have been so timid and indirect because they know that if they make them openly, they might have to produce actual evidence of racism.
Recently some of the attempts to label opposition to socialized medicine and trillion-dollar deficits as racism have gotten more blatant.
The Reverend Jeremiah Wright was just caught on video snarling, “I think the racists in the right wing are upset because poor people are about to be helped.” And it wasn’t even during one of his weekly sermons!
Jimmy Carter also weighed in over the weekend: “[A]n overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man… [and] a belief among many white people… that African Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.”
MSNBC bloggers recently wrote, “Whether it’s fair or not, there is a perception growing that race is driving some elements of the opposition to Obama.” read more »
